Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1 cup plain non-fat greek yogurt
- 1 egg plus 1 teaspoon of water; optional for toppings such as sesame seeds or poppy seeds
Instructions
- Combine the self-rising flour and Greek yogurt in a bowl using a wooden spoon.
- Once the dough comes together, turn it out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and formed into a ball.
- Flour your hands and the surface well since the dough is sticky. Work in extra flour if needed to keep it from sticking.
- Cut the dough into four equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a log about 4 to 6 inches long, then pinch the ends together to form bagels.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat and place the bagels on it.
- Prepare an egg wash by beating the egg with one teaspoon of water. Brush this on top of each bagel, adding desired seasonings.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 22 minutes.
- Remove the tray from the oven, increase the temperature to 450°F, and return the baking sheet to bake for an additional 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown on top.
- Store bagels in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
Notes
Ensure to flour your hands well when shaping the bagels to prevent sticking.
You can experiment with different toppings to customize your bagels to your taste.
These bagels are best enjoyed fresh but can be refrigerated or frozen for later.
