This Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish features creamy cheese filling, fresh strawberry jam, and flaky puff pastry, making it an irresistible target for breakfast or brunch enthusiasts. Simple to prepare and deliciously satisfying!
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 17.3 oz. box puff pastry dough, (2 sheets), thawed but refrigerated
- ½ cup strawberry jam, other flavors also work
- 1 tsp orange or lemon zest, (optional)
- 1 tbsp milk, any type works
- 1 tbsp turbinado sugar, or use granulated sugar
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375℉ and prepare a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth using an electric mixer, about 1 minute.
- Unfold the puff pastry sheets and place them on the prepared baking sheet. The sheets should have been separated into three vertical sections. The middle section stays intact for filling, while the outer sections will be cut into slits.
- Using a knife, cut 1-inch strips on both sides of the pastry sheet, starting from the fold and leaving them connected at the center.
- Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the middle section of both pastry sheets.
- Combine the strawberry jam with orange or lemon zest if using, and spoon it over the cream cheese filling, using about ¼ cup jam for each pastry.
- Fold the matching outer slits over each other into the middle in a slight downward angle to create a V shape, working your way down until all slits are folded in a braid-like manner.
- Brush the top of each Danish with milk using a pastry brush.
- Sprinkle turbinado sugar over the top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown on top.
- Allow to cool for 15 minutes before making the glaze.
- For the optional glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until thick yet pourable. Adjust consistency with more powdered sugar or milk as needed.
- Pour the glaze over each Danish, let set, slice, and serve.
Notes
For a fruity twist, try different flavors of jam such as raspberry or apricot.
Ensure the cream cheese is softened for easy mixing and spreading.
These Danishes are best served warm, but can also be enjoyed later at room temperature.
