Description

This delightful Orange Cake combines the zest of navel oranges with fluffy butter for a sweet treat that’s simple to make. Ideal for gatherings and dessert lovers, this cake brings bright flavors to your table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • Zest from 1 navel orange
  • ¾ cup butter, softened
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup applesauce
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp orange juice
  • ¼ tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and prepare a 9” cake pan by lining it with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sugar and orange zest, rubbing them together to release the aroma. Add the softened butter and beat until fluffy, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Next, incorporate the eggs, milk, orange juice, applesauce, and vanilla into the mixture, stirring until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture and stir gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. For the glaze, whisk together the orange juice and vanilla, then mix in the powdered sugar until smooth.
  8. Pour the glaze over the cooled cake, spreading it evenly. Let it set for a few minutes before slicing.

Notes

Make sure to use fresh orange juice for the best flavor.
Letting the cake cool before adding the glaze helps it adhere better and enhances presentation.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container to keep it moist.
