Description

These Heart-Shaped Macarons are perfect for any special occasion with their delightful almond flavor and charming appearance. With easy-to-follow steps and simple ingredients like almond flour and egg whites, they promise a fun baking experience while creating delicious treats that impress all.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (100g) almond flour*
  • 1½ cups (180g) powdered sugar*
  • 3 large egg whites around 90 grams, at room temperature*
  • ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon red gel food coloring*
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Print out 4 copies of the Heart Template.
  • Sift the almond flour and powdered sugar together twice into a bowl and set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine egg whites and cream of tartar; beat on medium-low speed until soft peaks form.
  • Gradually add the granulated sugar while continuing to beat until almost stiff peaks appear.
  • Mix in red gel food coloring and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  • Gently fold in a third of the dry ingredients, then the remainder, ensuring the batter can run off the spatula forming a ‘figure 8’.
  • Transfer the batter to a piping bag with a small round tip.
  • Position 2 heart templates on a cookie sheet and cover with parchment paper.
  • Pipe the batter into the heart shapes, spreading it to the edges and forming a tip at the bottom of each heart with a toothpick.
  • Tap the pan to release air bubbles and pop any remaining bubbles on the surface.
  • Let the batter rest in a dry area for 45 minutes to an hour until dry to the touch.
  • Preheat the oven to 315°F/160°C.
  • Bake macarons, one sheet at a time, for 13 minutes until they rise and form feet.
  • Cool on a rack for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan, leaving them on parchment until completely cool.
  • Ensure macarons peel off cleanly from the parchment paper.

Notes

Make sure your egg whites are at room temperature for best results.
Do not skip the resting time as it helps form the macaron’s signature texture.
Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor and texture.
