These Easy Donut Holes are irresistibly tasty with a gooey texture, made with simple ingredients like heavy cream and milk. Perfect for a sweet snack or special breakfast, this homemade treat makes any gathering delightful.
Ingredients
Scale
- 5 cups vegetable oil
- 2 cups + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- ½ cup whole milk
- Toppings – see notes.
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Add in the heavy whipping cream and milk, then stir with a spoon until the dough forms, keeping in mind it will be gooey.
- Using a cookie scoop, form 1 tablespoon balls of dough. You can either fry them immediately or chill on a baking sheet while the oil heats.
- Heat oil in a 3-quart saucepan to 350°F, using a thermometer for accuracy. Keep a cookie sheet lined with paper towels nearby.
- Fry 3-4 donut holes at a time, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Monitor the temperature and adjust as necessary. Fry for about 3-5 minutes, flipping halfway until they are dark golden brown.
- Once done, use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and transfer to the paper towel-lined sheet to cool before rolling in cinnamon sugar or glazing.
Notes
Make sure the oil temperature is accurate for the best frying results.
For extra flavor, consider adding vanilla extract to the dough.
Try rolling the donut holes in powdered sugar or a chocolate glaze for variety.
