Description
This Crockpot Apple Butter offers a rich, sweet flavor with minimal prep. Enjoy smooth apple goodness made from fresh apples, sugar, and cinnamon, perfect for spreading on toast or using in desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 lb (1400g) apples (fuji, gala, honeycrisp, red delicious or similar)
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (100g) packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Slice and core the apples. Peeling is optional. Cut them into small chunks for quicker cooking.
- Place the apples in a 7qt slow cooker. Add both sugars and cinnamon on top, then toss to combine.
- Cover and cook on high for 3-5 hours, stirring after 2 hours, until the apples are translucent (about 4 hours).
- Blend the apple mixture with a hand blender until smooth. Alternatively, use a regular blender in batches, leaving the lid slightly cracked to prevent pressure build-up.
- Once blended, return the mixture to the slow cooker and cook on high with the lid cracked for 30 minutes to an hour, until you reach the desired thickness.
- Stir in salt and vanilla. Allow to cool before storing in jars or containers.
Notes
Make sure to check the apple mixture periodically to avoid burning at the edges of the slow cooker.
If saving for later, consider canning the apple butter to extend its shelf life.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks if not canned.
