Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup water
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 cups all purpose white flour (you may need more or less depending on how dry your kitchen is)
  • 1/2 cup california raisins
  • oil for brushing bowl
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 3 tbsp icing sugar

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar, and let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
  • Add eggs, water, salt, melted butter, and cinnamon to the yeast mixture, and mix well.
  • Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, until a dough forms.
  • Mix in the raisins until evenly distributed in the dough.
  • Brush an oil coat inside a bowl, place the dough inside, and let it rise for 90 minutes in a warm area, covered with a moist towel.
  • Once risen, divide the dough into 9 large or 12 smaller pieces and place them on a baking pan.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Allow the dough balls to rise for an additional 30 minutes, covered with a moist towel.
  • Brush the tops with beaten egg to create a golden finish.
  • Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 15 minutes until golden brown.
  • Mix water and icing sugar to a thick consistency and fill a piping bag with the mixture.
  • Let the buns cool completely before piping crosses on top with the icing.
  • Serve with butter and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, ensure your kitchen is warm for the dough to rise appropriately.
You can use different types of dried fruits for variations, such as currants or cranberries.
