Description

Carmelitas are a delightful treat featuring layers of gooey caramel, chocolate chips, and cookie dough. This simple recipe is perfect for gatherings or relaxing at home, delivering a sweet experience with every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 30 ounces chocolate chip cookie dough refrigerated, store-bought dough, or homemade
  • 11 ounces caramels
  • ¼ cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Slice a little more than half of the cookie dough into 1/4" rounds and lay them in a single layer on a parchment-lined 9-inch square baking pan.
  3. Press the dough into a single, solid, even layer using your fingers.
  4. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown, then remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
  5. Combine unwrapped caramels and evaporated milk in a microwave-safe container and heat on high for 1 minute.
  6. Stir and continue heating in 30-second intervals until the caramel is completely melted.
  7. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the slightly cooled cookie crust.
  8. Drizzle the melted caramel on top of the chocolate chips.
  9. Crumble the remaining cookie dough over the caramel; it doesn't have to be perfect.
  10. Return the Carmelitas to the oven and bake for another 12-15 minutes or until starting to turn golden brown.
  11. Let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  12. Allow to sit out for 15 minutes before cutting and serving.

Notes

Ensure your caramel is melted completely to achieve the best texture.
Allow ample cooling time for the Carmelitas to set properly before slicing.
Feel free to add nuts or additional chocolate chips for a variation.
