Ingredients
Scale
- 3 granny smith apples
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1 pinch of nutmeg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 12 ounces pound cake
- 8 ounces cool whip
- 6 tablespoons caramel sauce
Instructions
- Peel and chop the apples into small cubes and toss them into a medium saucepan.
- Add the lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar, stirring well.
- Let the mixture simmer over medium heat for about 10 minutes until the apples soften and the sugar melts into a caramel-like syrup.
- Set it aside to cool slightly, ensuring it’s not piping hot when assembling.
- Cut the pound cake into bite-sized cubes while the apple mixture cools.
- Fill a piping bag (or zip-top bag with a corner snipped off) with Cool Whip.
- Begin layering your trifles: start with a layer of pound cake cubes in serving glasses or jars.
- Add a layer of the apple mixture, then drizzle with caramel sauce, followed by a generous layer of Cool Whip.
- Repeat the layers one more time with pound cake, apples, caramel, and Cool Whip, finishing with a final drizzle of caramel on top.
- Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready.
Notes
You can use any cake you prefer, such as angel food or white cake.
For a bit of crunch, consider adding chopped nuts in between the layers.
Make sure the apple mixture is slightly cooled before assembly to maintain the texture.
