- 12 medium apples, peeled and sliced
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 4 tablespoons cornstarch

- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 cup water
- 3 tablespoons butter, cut into small cubes
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, mix flour and salt, then add Crisco and work with fingers until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
- Make a well in the middle of the mixture and add cold water. Gently mix until flour is moistened without overmixing.
- Split dough into two pieces, flatten into discs, wrap in plastic, and chill for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- Roll out one disc on a floured surface into a circle about 1/4" thick and large enough to hang over a 9" pie plate.
- Line the pie plate with the rolled-out dough, then roll the second disc into strips about 1/4" thick for the top.
- Place the strips on a sheet tray and chill while preparing the pie filling.
Notes
For a golden crust, brush the top with an egg wash before baking.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for the perfect dessert experience.
Ensure to use a mix of sweet and tart apples for a balanced flavor.
